Eco Cabin Development gets Go Ahead!
Cowfold, Sussex

Result!
The establishment of a low-impact holiday cabin scheme has finally got the go ahead, nearly 3 years after Creed Design first devised the proposals.

Behind the Scenes
The proposed enclave of cabins developed to meet level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Buildings have been designed to sit lightly in the woods alongside the A272 in West Sussex. Additional constructions re-use the foundations of old industrial buildings on the site and are to be constructed to equally high standards, for use by the WSCC Rangers and for site administration and energy provision.

The location of the wooded site is close to the junction of a disused railway line, now linking Shoreham and Horsham as a traffic-free leisure route. Design Director Andrew French was convinced immediately that low-impact and sustainability were vital and should be at the core of any scheme.

The clusters of cabins are orientated to take advantage of the sunlight and are super-insulated. They will also sit on helical screw piles. This will enable relocation at a later date with minimal footprint. Energy requirements on site are designed to be minimal and though the development will require a grid connection, solar PV arrays and solar thermal installations will ensure the site exports more energy than it imports.
